How to build a realistic Bangkok food budget

Bangkok can support a modest food budget, but only when your estimate matches your neighbourhood and routine. Separate meals into four groups: local cooked food, groceries, coffee and snacks, and social or delivery meals. Record a full week, including drinks and delivery fees, before turning it into a monthly number. Food courts and cooked-food markets are useful because prices are visible and portions are easy to compare. Markets near residential areas can be better everyday references than famous visitor markets. Supermarkets are valuable for labelled staples and promotions, but imported products can change the total quickly. When viewing accommodation, walk the surrounding streets at breakfast and dinner time. A room with no affordable food nearby may force delivery or repeated rail journeys. A small refrigerator and a place to wash dishes can be worth more than a decorative kitchenette you never use. For BahtStretcher price reports, include the district, month, dish, portion and extras. That makes the report useful to someone comparing On Nut, Ari, Bang Na or Ratchada rather than creating one misleading “Bangkok price.” Checked 27 August 2026. Prices, routes and opening times can change, so confirm with the named operator before travelling or signing a contract.
