Bangkok transport: calculate the commute before choosing the condo

A cheaper Bangkok condo is not automatically cheaper living. Price the exact return journey you expect to make most days, including motorcycle taxi or bus connections at each end. Multiply that by your realistic number of travel days, then add occasional taxis during heavy rain or late finishes. BTS and MRT are separate systems with different fare information, so do not assume one pass covers every journey. Official BTS information says a new Rabbit card has a 120-baht issuing fee and stored value can be topped up from 100 baht. MRTA publishes current MRT fare information and supports contactless payment on its covered lines. Check the route before buying any card or package. The best-value location is often one with several options: rail for long trips, a bus for routine journeys, walkable food and a taxi fallback. Test the walk from station to building in daytime and after dark; “five minutes from BTS” in an advert may measure from a different entrance. Official sources: bts.co.th/eng/tickets/ticket-rabbit-issuing.html and mrta.co.th/en/ticket-information Checked 27 August 2026. Prices, routes and opening times can change, so confirm with the named operator before travelling or signing a contract.
