Chiang Mai market shopping: build a weekly routine, not a souvenir trip

Chiang Mai has many markets, but a useful household budget needs a repeatable route. Separate fresh produce, ready-cooked food, household supplies and occasional treats. Compare two nearby markets and one supermarket using the same small basket, then choose based on the whole weekly cost and travel time. The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes Jing Jai Farmers Market as a weekend morning market selling produce from farmers, prepared food and locally made goods. Its published hours are Saturday and Sunday from 06:30, but confirm closing time before a special trip. It can be useful for quality and local products; it should not automatically be treated as the cheapest source for every item. For everyday savings, buy quantities you can actually finish and record coffee, snacks and transport. Markets can feel inexpensive while many small unrecorded purchases raise the total. Prices, routes and opening times can change, so confirm with the named operator before travelling or signing a contract.
